Adrian Lobsiger remains Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC). The United Federal Assembly elected the 63-year-old for a further term of office on Wednesday - with 217 out of 236 valid votes. Lobsiger has held the position since 2016.
This is the first time that Parliament has elected the Edöb. The new Data Protection Act stipulates that the National Council and the Council of States are the electing authorities and that the Edöb is no longer appointed by the Federal Council.
As Lobsiger had stood for a third and final term of office, his position had not been advertised. The Judicial Commission proposed to the councillors that the doctor of law be confirmed in office for the years 2024 to 2027. There was no opposition to this.
Lobsiger has been working for the federal government since the early 1990s. Between 2000 and 2005, Lobsiger founded and managed the postgraduate course on combating white-collar crime and the Competence Center for Forensics and White-Collar Crime at Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts on a part-time basis.
The Edöb is responsible for ensuring transparency and supervising the correct application of the federal data protection provisions.
