Federal Council wants financial incentives for efficient asylum enforcement

The Federal Council is in favor of a cost brake in the asylum system. It is proposing a Yes to a motion calling for financial incentives for efficient asylum enforcement and the application of the legally enshrined malus system for lump-sum payments to the cantons.
The Federal Council is asking Parliament to adopt the motion by Fribourg FDP member of the Council of States Johanna Gapany, as can be seen from its statement published on Thursday. The Federal Council did not justify its position in the written response. The Council of States will decide on the motion next.
Gapany justifies the motion with a "considerable increase in lump sums for asylum enforcement". Efficiency in the cantons varies, for example in the enforcement of legally binding expulsions. Gapany also cited differences in the employment rate. This needs to be higher, not only for refugees from Ukraine.
If deportations were carried out efficiently and more refugees and people in need of protection had a job, this would significantly reduce costs for the public sector, wrote Gapany. In addition, immigration from EU and EFTA states could be curbed in this way.
