The Federal Council is asking Parliament for funding of CHF 987 million for cultural promotion in the years 2025 to 2028. The Confederation is therefore proposing CHF 14 million less for implementation than in the consultation draft.
The financial framework takes into account the recently adopted cuts to prevent further structural deficits in the federal government's regular budget, the Federal Council wrote in its decision on Friday.
The cultural message was received positively in the consultation process. For the first time, cantons, cities, municipalities and cultural associations were involved in the drafting of the dispatch.
In light of the precarious social security situation for cultural workers during the Covid crisis, the federal government wants to guarantee them appropriate compensation and improve their working conditions.
The funds will also be used to support the digital transformation of culture. Sustainability in the cultural sector, the preservation of cultural heritage and the restoration of historically contaminated cultural heritage are also to be promoted.
The Federal Office of Culture (FOC), Pro Helvetia and the Swiss National Museum will continue to be responsible for distributing the funds.
