At this year's Milano Design Week, the Swiss design scene is exploring joy as a positive force for transformation. The group exhibition "Joy" comprises 23 projects, as announced by the Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia on Tuesday.
Collaborations by young designers, independent studios, established brands and universities from Switzerland will be on show, the press release stated. The projects would interpret the annual theme of "Joy" in an "innovative and nuanced way", according to Pro Helvetia. The aim is to showcase the creativity, curiosity and dynamism of the Swiss design scene. It also aims to show the potential "that arises from the recognition of emotions in the design process".
Under "Emerging Talents", the cultural foundation presents around eight young designers whose work is based on collective values. Approaches such as the recycling of materials or modern applications for traditional craft techniques are highlighted. For example, carpets made from discarded climbing ropes will be on display.
The Milano Design Week 2024 will take place from April 15 to 21. The "House of Switzerland" is located in the Casa degli Artisti and is a joint project of Pro Helvetia and Presence Switzerland as well as other partners.
