Rider assistance systems and e-bike speedometer become mandatory

From April 1, additional regulations will apply to vehicles: new cars must be equipped with driver assistance systems and an accident data recorder. Fast e-bikes must have a speedometer from this date.
With its decision at the end of December, the Federal Council wants to ensure that new vehicles have the latest safety systems. The mandatory driver assistance systems are used, for example, to warn of drowsiness and distractions, but also for automatic emergency braking in the event of danger. They also help when reversing and turning.
Protection of pedestrians
Improved bodywork elements, which will also be mandatory from April 1, should ensure that the impact is less severe in the event of an accident. This should provide better protection for pedestrians and cyclists.
Drivers of trucks and buses must also have a better field of vision so that they can see whether someone is standing directly next to or in front of their vehicle. Coaches and buses must also meet higher requirements in terms of rollover protection and fire safety.
Speedometers for fast e-bikes
In addition, fast e-bikes must be fitted with a speedometer from April 1. Riding without a speedometer will result in a fine of 20 francs.
The Touring Club of Switzerland (TCS) wrote that the speedometer requirement for fast e-bikes initially only applies to new bikes put on the road. Vehicles that are already on the road must be equipped with them by April 1, 2027.
