50 years of the canton of Jura: the anniversary of the referendum of June 23, 1974 is being celebrated with events this year. The Mouvement autonomiste jurassien (MAJ) is also taking part. The official part will take place in the cantonal capital of Delsberg.

For the cantonal government, the events are not just a matter for the authorities, but also a concern for movements linked to Jura's history and civil society.

In parallel to the celebration on June 23, which is under the patronage of the State Chancellery, exhibitions will be shown as part of the Jura24 project that explore the past, present and future of the canton using the metaphor of the train. Moutier, which only voted to change from Bern to the canton of Jura on March 28, 2021, will be included in the event.

With a turnout of 90.0 percent, the result of the vote on June 23, 1974 was close. When asked "Do you want to form a new canton?", 51.9 percent voted yes and 48.1 percent voted no. The three districts in the north - Delsberg, Freiberge and Pruntrut - voted in favour of the new canton. The remaining four districts of Courtelary, Laufen, La Neuveville and Moutier voted against.
