As announced, the weekend started with summery weather: On Saturday, the summer mark of 25 degrees was broken in parts of Switzerland by midday. According to MeteoSwiss, a new April record was even set on the Weissfluhjoch.

Specifically, 8.3 degrees were measured in the early afternoon. This means that the old April record of 7.8 degrees from April 20, 2018 has been surpassed in this measurement series, which dates back to 1971. The weather service expected further records for Saturday.

The exceptionally warm subtropical air flowing over Switzerland is responsible for the temperatures. In addition to summer temperatures, this current also brings Saharan dust with it.

The summer mark of 25 degrees was already broken at midday. According to MeteoSwiss, 26.1 degrees Celsius was also measured in Basel-Binningen.

The SRF Meteo website even showed 28 degrees for Basel. In other regions of Switzerland, too, temperatures had already risen to over 20 degrees by midday.
