The construction work under the "Astra Bridge" on the A1, which was interrupted on Wednesday due to the weather, will resume on Friday. The schedule will be adhered to, the Federal Roads Office (Astra) announced at the request of the Keystone-SDA news agency.

According to Astra, heavy rain and cold temperatures prevented the paving stage between Kirchberg BE and Luterbach SO on Wednesday. However, short-term interruptions due to the weather were taken into account in the construction plan and did not delay the overall work, according to the latest Astra bulletin.

So far, a total of 500 meters of new surfacing has been installed under the "Astra Bridge" in five stages. According to the bulletin, traffic on the "Astra Bridge" continued to operate normally in the second week of construction work. There have been no significant delays so far.

Weather influences driving behavior

As in the previous week, during the morning and evening peak there was the usual gridlocked traffic on the entire route and in both directions. According to Astra, there were slight delays along the entire stretch of the A1 from Bern to Oensingen SO last Tuesday.

The weather also influenced the driving behavior of road users this week. They had been driving more carefully and at a reduced speed. There were also no indications of traffic diverting onto the cantonal roads.

The road surface is being renewed under the mobile "Astra" bridge, which is around 280 meters long. Traffic rolls over the bridge. The permitted speed is 60 kilometers per hour. Once the renovation work under the bridge is complete, the bridge will move 100 meters further for the next section, controlled remotely by GPS. The cost of the prestigious Astra project has so far amounted to around CHF 26 million.
