Starker Regen führt zu Kellerüberflutung in Flawil SG

Almost 60 millimetres of rain fell in Flawil SG over the course of two hours on Thursday afternoon. According to SRF Meteo, this corresponds to around half of the average rainfall in the month of May. The water penetrated several houses.
Heavy rain and hail have literally flooded the streets in Flawil. The St. Gallen cantonal police received reports of several flooded cellars, a spokesperson explained on request.
The fire department was in constant operation. By shortly after 5 p.m., it had been called out to around 50 incidents in the municipality of Flawil, a representative of the Gossau Region Security Association told the Keystone-SDA news agency. Several emergency teams were on site.
Rail services between Flawil and Uzwil were also restricted on Thursday afternoon. According to the SBB incident report, delays and cancellations were to be expected until around 5.30 pm.
