A ski touring mishap on Belalp led to the tragic death of a man on Thursday, casting a shadow over the serene Swiss Alps.
A ski tourer fell to his death on the Belalp VS on Thursday morning. He was in a group of three heading towards the Oberaletschhütte. Shortly after the “Belalp” hotel, he fell several hundred meters down a steep slope in a couloir for unknown reasons.
Formal identification of the victim was still pending on Friday, according to the cantonal police. Rescue workers were only able to determine that the victim had died. The public prosecutor’s office launched an investigation.
