Eight climate activists disrupted traffic on the A2 near Wassen UR on Saturday morning. Police patrols were deployed to remove the activists from the road, as reported by the cantonal police of Uri.
The Uri cantonal police received a report of traffic disruption caused by a sit-in by activists at around 11.30 am. According to the police, the eight people involved were temporarily detained, questioned and charged with various offenses.
The A2 was reopened to traffic after around ten minutes, according to the Uri cantonal police. The group "act now" claimed responsibility for the blockade on the highway on the short messaging service X. "The climate is still in trouble. We will be back until the science is heard," the group wrote in a post.
Climate activists had already blocked a sit-in near Göschenen UR on the A2 towards the Gotthard in April last year.
