“Rütli” now runs on electricity instead of diesel on Lake Lucerne

The oldest active motor vessel on Lake Lucerne is now powered by an electric motor. The Lake Lucerne Navigation Company has converted the "MS Rütli", which was launched in 1929, into the "eMS Rütli".
On Thursday afternoon, the Lake Lucerne Navigation Company (SGV) presented the ship, which was converted in its own shipyard Shiptec. The electrified "Rütli" will make its first scheduled voyage on Saturday with the start of the summer timetable.
The ship is not only the oldest still active motor ship of the shipping company, but with its 22 meters in length also the smallest. It is mainly used for cruises in the bay of Lake Lucerne or for events.
The "MS Rütli" was built in Germany almost a hundred years ago. The SGV received it as part of a contractual penalty because the shipyard had delivered the steamship Stadt Luzern, which it had built, with defects.
