Around 800 pro-Palestinian students and sympathizers took to the streets in Lausanne on Saturday. They demanded a stop to cooperation with Israeli universities.
The demands have thus remained the same as in the occupations of universities in recent weeks.
The demonstration was calm and in a friendly atmosphere, a Lausanne police spokesman told the Keystone-SDA news agency.
According to Keystone-SDA estimates, 800 demonstrators carrying Palestinian flags marched through Lausanne. The organizers estimated the number of demonstrators to be significantly higher at 1500.
Slogans such as "Palestinians lives matter" and "Israel criminal, the universities are accomplices" could be read on the flags and signs. On their way, the demonstrators chanted the slogans "Free free Palestine" and "From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free".
According to the organizers, the national demonstration was originally planned for Bern. However, as they had not received permission from the capital, they had turned to Lausanne.
In recent weeks, several Swiss universities have been occupied by pro-Palestine demonstrators.
