Thousands of fans gathered on Bern's Bundesplatz on Sunday afternoon to celebrate the Swiss football championship title of Bern's Young Boys. The club colors yellow and black dominated the scene.
Fan chants rang out, jukeboxes blared and the beer and YB sausage stands were in full swing. Thousands of fans eagerly awaited their team. The official YB "party" began shortly after 4 p.m. with rap from the Bernese combo "Chlyklass". A large banner with the words "Fuessbauschwizermeischter 2023/24" (Swiss football champions) was emblazoned above the stage.
Hundreds of fans had already gathered at the Wankdorf Stadium and marched through the city towards Bundesplatz. More and more people joined them in the city. A large banner with the words "Geyoungboyst" fluttered on the Nydeggbrücke bridge.
The pun "Veryoungboyst" was born years ago to express the fact that the then mostly hapless Bernese football club had messed up yet another game. In the meantime, football luck has found YB. The play on words has changed and now expresses pride and joy at a victory with a wink.
