For Vera Weber from the Fondation Franz Weber, the Swiss people's clear "yes" to the energy decree is "not a completely negative result under the given circumstances". Weber said this on Sunday when asked by the Keystone-SDA news agency.
The vote had "sensitized the population by putting energy policy and nature conservation up for debate", Weber continued. She hopes that the vote on the biodiversity initiative on September 22 will "balance out" Sunday's result in the event of a yes vote.
With regard to the Electricity Act, the Fondation Franz Weber wants to be vigilant "and take the proponents at their word", who have made "many promises", says Vera Weber.
For example, the supporters had promised that 8% of solar panels would be installed on roofs. Energy Minister Albert Rösti also promised that the democratic rights of the municipalities would not be affected.
Quite a few municipalities in the canton of Vaud had rejected the law, in some cases massively, Weber noted with satisfaction. Together with other organizations, the Fondation Franz Weber had submitted the referendum signatures that led to Sunday's vote.
