The defendant in the trial for the alleged murder on the Lysbüchel site in Basel said in court on Monday that he apologized to the family of the deceased. He also said that he could no longer remember exactly what had happened due to his drug use.
The 25-year-old is accused of killing a man with a knife on his way home from a party in August 2021. "I still don't understand it and the whole situation is weighing on me," the accused told the Basel-Stadt Criminal Court. "I was completely drunk and foggy - that's all I can say," he said in response to the court president's question about the course of the crime.
At that time, he had consumed cocaine, alcohol and steroids at the same time, which had always made him aggressive. He also always saw "dangers" in cocaine use.
A few weeks before the homicide in Basel, the 25-year-old allegedly injured a man in Zurich in a life-threatening manner. He already had a criminal record for violent offenses in his youth.
