On Monday, the buildings insurance of the canton of Graubünden assumed that around 200 properties had suffered damage due to the storm in Misox GR. The amount of damage is likely to be in the tens of millions.
The extent of the storm damage to buildings in Graubünden's southern valley is extensive. "Our initial estimate is that around 200 buildings have been damaged," Marc Handlery, director of the Graubünden buildings insurance company, told the Keystone-SDA news agency. He took a look at the extent of the destruction in Misox on Monday.
The damage to the buildings is therefore spread across several villages in the valley. They vary in severity. In Sorte GR, a mudslide completely destroyed three houses. In other places, cellars were filled with water and mud, according to the report.
According to Handlery, the amount of damage is in the double-digit million range. More precise details could be provided "in the course of the week". Several experts are currently documenting the damage on site.
Two people still missing
On Friday evening, a violent storm in the southern Graubünden valley led to flooding and landslides. Two people were still missing on Monday.
On Saturday morning, an injured woman was rescued from a cone of rubble. On Sunday, rescue workers found a male body in the Moesa River, which runs through the valley.
The A13 San Bernadino - Bellinzona highway remains interrupted in Misox. Masses of water destroyed a section of the national road between Lostallo and Soazza.
