The Office for Consumer Protection of the Canton of Vaud is not commenting on the Nestlé Waters case: it is not in a position to disclose information about the ongoing proceedings, a spokesperson told the news agency AWP on Monday. The public prosecutor's office of the canton of Vaud will decide whether or not to open an investigation.
According to a report by French-speaking Swiss radio and television (RTS) last week, the cantonal chemist of Vaud has reported the mineral water manufacturer Nestlé Waters to the public prosecutor's office. He accuses the company of illegally filtering its water from Henniez VD with activated carbon filters.
A criminal investigation has been initiated. According to RTS, the Vevey-based company faces a fine of up to CHF 40,000 and, above all, damage to its image. Following revelations in France, Nestlé admitted at the beginning of the year that it had also used non-approved filter processes for Henniez mineral water in Switzerland. However, the activated carbon filters at the factory in Henniez VD were removed at the end of 2022. Furthermore, Nestlé said at the time that ultraviolet systems had never been used in the Henniez factory.
A Nestlé spokesperson also declined to comment on the case when asked by the news agency AWP on Monday (today): "We cannot provide any information on possible proceedings at this time," the spokesperson said.
