Slope above the A2 near Bissone TI must be secured

Heavy rainfall in southern Ticino on Sunday led to a temporary closure of the A2 highway between Mendrisio and Bissone. The area above the road had to be secured, explained the Ticino crisis management team in response to inquiries from Keystone-SDA.
Due to the intense rainfall in Mendrisiotto over the last 24 hours, there was a risk of debris and water spilling onto the road from the slope above the highway, explained Renato Pizolli, communications officer for the Ticino emergency services.
It is difficult to estimate how long the closure will last. Shortly before 3 p.m., the A2 was closed in both directions near Capolago at the southern end of Lake Lugano.
