Confederation extends heat warning to Lake Geneva area

On Sunday, the Swiss government extended its heat warning for the coming week. It is now also warning of a heatwave for the Lake Geneva basin with temperatures of between 31 and 35 degrees in low areas.
The warning is valid until Thursday, as announced by the Federal Office of Meteorology and Climatology (MeteoSwiss) in the latest Natural Hazards Bulletin.
MeteoSwiss had already issued a heat warning for the southern side of the Alps on Friday. This now applies to the entire area south of the Alps, Valais and the Lake Geneva region, according to the report. Large parts of Ticino and part of the Misox in the canton of Graubünden are also affected.
According to MeteoSwiss, the end of the heatwave is still uncertain. According to the current forecast, it is expected to end on Thursday evening, it said on Sunday. Thunderstorms are also to be expected.
In connection with the heat warning, the federal government advises people to drink plenty of fluids regularly and preferably unsweetened fluids - at least 1.5 liters per day. People should also protect themselves from direct sunlight.
Buildings should be well ventilated before the heatwave, especially at night and early in the morning, MeteoSwiss continued. Physical exertion should be avoided. Under no circumstances should people or animals be left in cars.
