79-year-old woman died in Lachen SZ due to burning candle

The fatal house fire in mid-July in Lachen SZ was caused by burning candles. This was the result of the investigation, according to the Schwyz cantonal police. A 79-year-old woman died in the fire.
The cause of the fire was negligent handling of candles, the police wrote. The authorities did not provide any further details.
The fire in a two-family house in Lachen occurred around two and a half weeks ago in the middle of the night. A family of three who lived in one of the apartments managed to escape - but not the 79-year-old woman who was in the other apartment. The fire department was only able to recover her dead after extinguishing the fire.
