Following the announcement of the AHV miscalculation, the FDP has sharply criticized the responsible SP Federal Councillor Elisabeth Baume-Schneider and the former SP Federal Councillor Alain Berset. Under their leadership, the Federal Social Insurance Office (FSIO) had caused a fiasco.

The FDP wrote in a communiqué on Tuesday that the office had misjudged the forecasts for AHV pensions by four billion francs per year, thereby undermining confidence in the FSIO, the Federal Department of Home Affairs (FDHA) and the institutions.

The party demanded full transparency from Interior Minister Elisabeth Baume-Schneider. In addition, the Control Committee (CPC) of both councils should investigate the "payments debacle".

The report also calls for a clean-up in other areas of social insurance. For example, an urgent review of the forecasts for disability insurance and supplementary benefits is required.

The Federal Social Insurance Office revised the financial outlook for the AHV downwards on Tuesday. AHV expenditure in 2033 is likely to be around CHF 4 billion or around 6 percent lower than previously calculated.
