Doc filmmaker Nicole Vögele nominated for European Film Award

Twelve feature-length documentaries have been nominated for the European Film Awards. Among them is the Swiss-German filmmaker and journalist Nicole Vögele with "The Landscape and the Fury".
The twelve nominated documentaries come from nine European countries. They reflect "the great diversity of European cinema", the European Film Academy announced on Wednesday. It is noticeable in the selection that France is particularly well represented, with two productions and four co-productions.
"The Landscape and the Fury" by Nicole Vögele is the only entry from Switzerland. The film has already won the Grand Prix at Visions du Réel in Nyon last April, the documentary film festival's highest award.
In terms of content, the film takes its viewers to the Bosnian-Croatian border region, where migrant families, deminers and locals meet. It is about displacement, violence and memories of the war, which erupt in these multi-layered encounters between people. The film is a kind of panorama in a place that is very politically and historically charged, Vögele is quoted as saying.
The selection of documentaries is in the running for a European Film Award in the European Documentary category. In mid-August, the European Film Academy in Berlin announced 29 nominated feature films, including "The Shameless" by Bulgarian director Konstantin Bojanow, which was co-produced by Switzerland. The European Film Awards are presented in eight categories.
The award ceremony will take place in Switzerland for the first time this year, on December 7 at the Culture and Convention Center (KKL) in Lucerne. The European Film Awards have been presented by the European Film Academy, based in Berlin, since 1988. The event takes place there every two years. In other years, it is the turn of other cities throughout Europe.
