In a 24-hour asylum procedure, the decision on the application is made after an average of 17 days. According to the Confederation, contact with other European countries leads to this duration.

This was revealed on Monday in an answer from the Federal Council to a question from National Councillor Barbara Steinemann (SVP/ZH). The national government based its answer on the applications of 1127 people who submitted a new asylum application between the beginning of May and the end of August as part of the 24-hour procedure.

All procedural steps over which the State Secretariat for Migration (SEM) has a direct influence are generally carried out within 24 hours, as the Federal Council went on to say. However, for the majority of people, another European state is responsible. These states must be requested to readmit them. The procedures are therefore longer.
