According to the mayor of Delsberg, Damien Chappuis, the change of canton from Moutier will give the Jura "new momentum". He is thinking about structural reforms, for example, and advocates a canton with four to five municipalities.
"The canton of Glarus now only has three municipalities and is doing very well," Chappuis told the Keystone-SDA news agency on Sunday. In the Jura too, and even more so with the inclusion of Moutier, "we need to sit down together to develop a common vision".
"We have to stop being afraid of change. We must continue to develop," continued Chappuis. He referred to difficulties, for example when it comes to developing large regional projects, where you have to knock on the door of numerous municipalities.
"I would argue for a maximum of four or five Jura municipalities. I know that's pretty radical," said the mayor of Delsberg. In his opinion, standardization would also be advantageous in terms of the tax rate.
