The entire Eastern Switzerland board of Operation Libero has resigned due to Sanija Ameti remaining as co-president. This could not be reconciled with the values of the five board members.
According to a report in the NZZ, the board informed its members on Saturday evening about the closed resignation. The co-president of Operation Libero, Stefan Manser-Egli, confirmed the resignations to the news agency Keystone-SDA on Monday.
The website already states that new members are being sought for the General Assembly of the Eastern Switzerland section in January 2025.
Ameti's shots at a picture of Mary and Jesus crossed a line, section president Bruno Zanvit is quoted as saying in the article. He would also have liked Operation Libero to listen more to the suggestions and feedback from Eastern Switzerland.
The Eastern Switzerland region is one of six regional sections of Operation Libero. According to Manser-Egli, the other sections have spoken out in favor of the national board's position, i.e. Sameti remaining as co-president.
Zurich public prosecutor's office investigates
Ameti's action in September has also become a case for the judiciary. The Zurich public prosecutor's office is investigating around a dozen charges of disturbing religious freedom and freedom of worship. The GLP is examining expulsion proceedings against its Zurich city parliamentarian.
Ameti has resigned from the management of GLP Canton Zurich. Her employer, the PR agency Farner, dismissed her after the incident that Ameti herself posted on Instagram.
