The Fribourg police have identified the man who allegedly planted an incendiary device in Léchelles FR in June 2020. He is the 28-year-old who was recently arrested for a similar case in Courtepin.
The man has been in custody since the end of September, the police announced on Friday. So far, he has not made any statements about his motives. The public prosecutor will soon order a psychiatric assessment.
Around 70 people were evacuated in Léchelles in the Broye district in June 2020 after an incendiary device was found under a car shelter. According to the investigation, the alleged perpetrator acted alone. He is said to have assembled the incendiary device from individual components purchased separately.
This is apparently also how he proceeded in September 2024. Back then, three military vehicles in Grolley were damaged by flames. At the same time, the police found further arson devices in the man's apartment in Courtepin. The suspect has been behind bars ever since.
