The Swiss Conference of Cantonal Ministers of Public Health (GDK) expressed its delight on Sunday following the Yes vote on the Efas proposal. The population benefits in two ways - on the one hand as patients and on the other as premium payers. Nevertheless, uniform financing in the healthcare system is not a magic pill.

As premium payers, insured persons will benefit because the cantons will also co-finance outpatient treatment in future, thus curbing the rise in premiums, wrote the GDK. As patients, they benefit from the fact that the reform paves the way for more outpatient treatment and fewer unnecessary hospital stays.

The reform is broadly supported and all stakeholders have approached each other in recent years. In doing so, they have "proven that reforms in the healthcare system are possible", wrote the GDK. This is an important signal for all those who are committed to a sustainable, affordable healthcare system. "Uniform financing is not a magic pill, but it lays the foundation for further development steps in the healthcare system," it continued.
