Construction of the alpine solar power plant at the Klosters-Madrisa mountain railroad at an altitude of 2000 meters can begin. The plant is expected to generate around 17 GWh of electricity per year.

The solar power plant at the Klosters-Madrisa mountain railroad will be realized in connection with the federal government's solar express, Repower announced on Thursday. The condition is that at least ten percent of the plant must be connected to the grid by the end of 2025.

The developer is Madrisa Solar AG, in which Elektrizitätswerke des Kantons Zürich (EKZ), the municipality of Klosters and Repower each hold a one-third stake. The total investment amounts to around CHF 70 million.

The electricity produced in Madrisa is purchased by EKZ and the Klosters-Madrisa mountain railroads. The mountain railroads can use the electricity directly on site to operate their facilities.

As the plant's solar panels are south-facing, an above-average production yield is expected, particularly in the winter months. The amount of electricity that the plant will produce could supply over 3500 households.
