Woman hit and killed by car in Rapperswil-Jona

A woman was hit and fatally injured by a car on a pedestrian crossing in Rapperswil-Jona on Friday evening. The 71-year-old died at the scene of the accident.
The woman was hit by a 59-year-old driver who was traveling from Rapperswil in the direction of Feldbach on Friday evening. The accident occurred at the junction of Oberer Gubel and Zürcherstrasse, the St. Gallen cantonal police reported on Saturday.
Despite a large rescue team, the local pedestrian died at the scene of the accident. In addition to several patrols from the St.Gallen cantonal police, a rescue team, Rega and the fire department were also deployed.
