The National Council has approved the International Cooperation Strategy (IC) against the wishes of the SVP parliamentary group. The Federal Council is requesting around CHF 11.3 billion for the years 2025 to 2028.

On Thursday, the Grand Chamber rejected a motion for referral by the largest parliamentary group by 126 votes to 64. The SVP would have wanted the bill to be rejected in view of the army's higher financial requirements and the savings proposals of the group of experts appointed by the Federal Council.

The Federal Council is requesting roughly the same amount of money for the next four years as at present, namely CHF 11.3 billion. 13 percent of this, or CHF 1.5 billion, is to go to Ukraine.

The National Council has now begun its detailed deliberations on the bill. Like the Council of States, its Foreign Affairs Committee (FAC-N) wants to approve the proposed CHF 11.3 billion. Its Finance Committee is proposing cuts of CHF 1 billion and a total of CHF 10.3 billion.
