On Friday evening, the Winterthur police were kept busy for hours by a suspicious object. The train and road traffic in the city were restricted as a result. It was not until late in the evening that the situation returned to normal. At around 6pm, the police were notified of a suspicious object at Winterthur-Grüze station. For safety reasons, the station and the surrounding area were quickly evacuated and the area was cordoned off. According to SBB, the train traffic in Winterthur's Grüze station came to a complete standstill for a while. Specialists from the Forensic Institute Zurich secured the suspicious object and took it away for further examination. The police did not want to say what the object was. The St. Gallerstrasse and Talackerstrasse in Winterthur remained closed until 9.30pm and the train service at Grüze station was also restricted until then. An SBB spokesman confirmed to Keystone-SDA on Friday evening that there were longer-term restrictions on long-distance train traffic from Winterthur to Wil and St. Gallen and restrictions on regional traffic from Winterthur to Tösstal.
