On Tuesday, Swiss Federal Councilor Ignazio Cassis will meet with Maros Sefcovic, Vice President of the European Commission, in Brussels. The two politicians will take stock of the relationship between Switzerland and the EU and discuss the next steps in the exploratory talks on a technical and diplomatic level. The talks between Switzerland and the EU will continue "on the basis of the cornerstones for a possible negotiation mandate". So far, ten exploratory rounds have taken place between State Secretary Livia Leu and her EU negotiating partner Juraj Nociar. In September, Alexandre Fasel will take over the office of State Secretary at the EDA. Sefcovic also said last Thursday that he wanted to talk to Cassis about the schedule of discussions after the Swiss elections at the end of October. The European Commission has expressed a desire to conclude the negotiations with Switzerland during its mandate, which ends in the autumn of 2024. The last time Foreign Minister Cassis and Vice President Sefcovic met was on March 15 in Bern.
