On August 1st, Swiss farmers opened their farms to the public for the traditional 1st August Brunch. According to the Swiss Farmers' Association (SBV), two thirds of the events were booked. Despite the bad weather, many people still attended. Members of the government, including Justice Minister Elisabeth Baume-Schneider and Economic and Research Minister Guy Parmelin, were among the guests. Outside Minister Ignazio Cassis also joined a group of 180 readers of the Swiss Illustrated and L'Illustré for a hike through the Gotthard region, where they stopped for a Tessiner snack on the Alp Sorescia. The farmers served homemade dishes such as jams, butter rolls, muesli with fresh fruits, and fried eggs with bacon. The brunch is an opportunity for the SBV to introduce the public to the world of farming, and has been taking place for over 30 years.nn
