Almost thousand farmers converged in Kerzers with tractors for a peaceful protest.
Almost a thousand people gathered in Kerzers FR on Friday evening for a farmers’ protest. According to the police, the march, which included tractors, was peaceful and broke up at around 9.30 pm.
According to the information provided, those gathered wanted to send a “wake-up call to the administration, politicians and market players”. The rally participants gathered on a private property at around 7 pm.
They mainly arrived with tractors. In the end, around 420 vehicles from the canton of Fribourg and neighboring cantons gathered in Kerzers.
According to the Fribourg cantonal police, the participants came from agricultural circles. The authorities had been informed about the demonstration since Thursday.
In cooperation with the organizers, the police ensured that there were no major traffic obstructions, particularly in the lake district. According to the police, there were no incidents.
Farmers’ protests have been increasing in other European countries for weeks. In Switzerland, the demonstration in Kerzers is the largest to date. Previously, there had only been smaller actions such as place name signs hung upside down.
