Nearly 400 Western Swiss could lose their jobs due to the restructuring of the Post subsidiary Direct Mail Company (DMC). That’s according to trade unionist Diego Frieden, who is in charge of the social partnership with DMC.
The Vaud commune of Bussigny is the most affected in western Switzerland, with 200 employees, Frieden said Thursday in an interview with the Fribourg newspaper La Liberté. The Transfair unionist expects 60 people in Fribourg and 150 people in Grand-Lancy GE to lose their jobs.
The Post announced Wednesday that it will discontinue DMC as of 2024. It will thus put 3855 delivery men and women with part-time jobs on the street.
The Postal Service has launched a consultation process with employees. It will last until Nov. 13. The unions demanded an extension of this deadline. They also demanded that the yellow giant make all those affected a job offer within the Group.
