The upcoming Council of Europe ministerial meeting in Strasbourg is set to address pivotal issues, including the war in Ukraine and a new framework agreement on artificial intelligence (AI). Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis is slated to attend the two-day event starting next Thursday, under the chairmanship of the Principality of Liechtenstein.
This 133rd meeting of the Committee of Ministers will coincide with the Council of Europe’s 75th anniversary celebrations. The Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) announced these details on Monday, highlighting Switzerland’s active participation and long-standing membership since 1963.
A primary agenda item is the support for Ukraine amidst its ongoing conflict. The ministers will review the Council of Europe’s efforts, which include the implementation of a damage register established following last year’s summit in Reykjavik. Switzerland has committed to joining this register, which collects evidence and information on damages caused by the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine.
