Henrique Schneider takes charge as Secretary General of SVP Switzerland, marking a strategic shift in the party’s leadership.
SVP Switzerland, the nation’s leading party, is poised for a significant transformation with the appointment of Henrique Schneider as its new General Secretary, effective March 1. The party’s restructuring, announced on Thursday, also sees Peter Keller assuming the role of Deputy General Secretary.
This strategic shift, initiated by the party executive committee, aims to amplify the General Secretariat’s political influence. Schneider, 46, brings a wealth of experience to the table, having served as the Deputy Director of the Swiss Trade Association (SGV) until the end of 2023.
In his new role at SVP, Henrique Schneide is committed to shaping the party’s future, working closely with the party and parliamentary group presidency. His appointment, in line with the party’s statutes, awaits formal election by the party executive, scheduled for January 26.
Henrique Schneider’s expertise and dedication to SMEs promise to drive the party towards new horizons of political influence and success. During his 14-year tenure at SGV, Schneider established an impressive track record, championing the interests of SME businesses. His notable contributions span various domains, including the EU dossier, economic policy, and energy policy, where he significantly advanced SME interests.
Schneider’s journey has been marked by both achievements and challenges. Initially elected as the director of the trade association on February 8, 2023, his appointment was later rescinded in June 2023 following allegations of plagiarism, partially supported by an external law firm report. Despite this setback, Schneider continued as SGV Vice President and maintained involvement in key dossiers until the spring, departing from the association in December by mutual agreement.
