A late-night incident along the Limmat in Wettingen AG leads to a dramatic search operation. Despite efforts, one man remains missing after reportedly falling into the river.
A 27-year-old man fell into the Limmat in Wettingen AG at night and was not found despite an intensive search operation. A second man with minor injuries was rescued from the rough banks.
Eyewitnesses alerted the police emergency call center early Thursday morning at around 01:00, according to a statement from the Aargau cantonal police. A police patrol found a man at the scene on the rocky, steeply sloping bank. At the same time, fears that another man was in the river were confirmed.
The 24-year-old Swiss man, who could only be reached from the water, was rescued by pontooners and handed over to an ambulance, which took him to hospital. The search operation launched for the missing 27-year-old man was unsuccessful and was called off in the early hours of the morning.
According to initial findings on the cause of the accident, the 24-year-old had wandered away from a private party. Companions had searched for him and then discovered him on the banks of the Limmat. According to the police, all indications are that the 27-year-old must have fallen into the water while trying to help his colleague.
