The Swiss Patronship for Mountain Communities has donated 500,000 francs to the communities of Britsch and Riederalp VS to help them cope with the forest fire. The fire damaged 100 hectares of forest and caused millions of euros worth of damage. Without extensive measures, erosion, rockfall, landslides and avalanches are to be expected, as the Patronship announced on Thursday. The half million francs will help the communities with the costs of the operation and allow them to take preventive protective measures quickly. The true extent of the damage is still not foreseeable. Large financial efforts will be necessary for reforestation and projects such as embankments. For this reason, the Patronship has set up a special forest fire fund.
