Around 5920 men and women are running for the National Council in the autumn. This was already known before the end of all registration deadlines on Monday. In Nidwalden, there are three candidates for the succession of Peter Keller (SVP), in Obwalden two. The number of candidates for the National Council is higher than in 2019. In the four cantons with only one seat in the large chamber, there is no registration deadline or only a voluntary one - candidates can be registered until election day. In Appenzell, a fight election is foreseeable. In Glarus, four applications for the succession of Martin Landolt (Mitte) are currently available. In 2019, after the expiration of all deadlines and the clarification of the lists, there were 4660 candidates for the National Council. In at least three cantons, the number of candidates is lower than in 2019, including Basel-Stadt with 122 candidates. The number of submitted lists is also higher than in 2019. In the twenty cantons with proportional procedures, 618 lists were submitted by Monday evening. In several cantons, far more sub-lists were submitted than four years ago. Around 120 people are aiming for one of the 46 Council of States seats. Two members of the Council have already secured their next term: Daniel Fässler (Mitte/AI) was confirmed in office by the Landsgemeinde in the spring. Erich Ettlin (Mitte/OW) was elected silently.nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
