Due to renewed rainfall, several people have left the upper Maggia Valley on their own by land. Around a dozen people have remained in their homes in the closed zones despite intensive information work, according to the crisis management team.
Nine people had already been evacuated by air from the Bavona Valley on Friday, according to a statement from the Ticino cantonal police.
Due to predicted heavy rainfall on Saturday and Sunday, the Ticino emergency management team had designated exclusion zones following the landslides and debris avalanches of the previous week. Residents have been evacuated or ordered to evacuate from these zones since Friday.
Several roads have also been closed as a precaution. Access roads to the affected areas have also been closed since midday on Saturday, the press release added.
Only first aiders authorized
The above-mentioned restrictions also affect all those who carry out repair work and transport work vehicles and machinery, for example. According to instructions from the Ticino emergency services, only first responders are permitted in the closed areas in the event of an emergency.
All measures were carried out in consultation with the affected municipalities.
The closed areas include the entire Bavona Valley with the exception of the village of San Carlo, which lies at the very back of the valley.
In the upper Maggia Valley, the part of Prato Sornico near the Scudau stream and most of the houses in Piano di Peccia were closed.
The village of Bola-Croisa near Mogno (Ri di Röd) was also declared a restricted area.
