Aargau SVP member of parliament Christian Glur is to become a member of the National Council. The 49-year-old master farmer from the Zofingen district will replace SVP National Councillor Martina Bircher, who was elected to the Aargau cantonal government in October.
Glur has declared that he will not accept his election as a member of the Grand Council for the 2025/2028 term of office, according to the message published by the cantonal government on Friday regarding the election of the new cantonal parliament. Glur was first elected to the Grand Council in 2009.
In the National Council elections in the fall of 2023, Glur from Glashütten won the first substitute seat on the SVP list. His father, Walter Glur, was already a member of the National Council from 1999 to 2011. The SVP currently holds seven of Aargau's 16 seats in the upper chamber. The party won an additional seat in 2023.
