Agriculture with a total production of 12 billion francs

Total production in Swiss agriculture is expected to amount to CHF 11.9 billion in 2023. Compared to the previous year, this corresponds to an increase of 2.0%, as reported by the Federal Statistical Office (FSO) on the annual agricultural accounts.

Gross value added increased by 4.2 percent to 4.5 billion Swiss francs. It is made up of the total production of Swiss agriculture minus expenditure on intermediate inputs amounting to CHF 7.4 billion. Intermediate inputs include animal feed, energy, fertilizer and others.

According to the FSO, the annual net entrepreneurial income of Swiss agriculture is CHF 2.8 billion, a similar level to last year. This income mainly comprises the labor and productive assets (capital and land) of all farming families in Switzerland. According to the FSO, it is 6.6% below the average of the last five years.

According to the FSO, the production value of crop production increased by 5.3% year-on-year to CHF 4.3 billion. Animal products remained at a similar level to the previous year at an estimated CHF 6.0 billion.

The state contributions paid out to fulfill services of general interest increased by 0.7% compared to the previous year. At CHF 3.0 billion, they accounted for a fifth of the total resources of Swiss agriculture and remained an important component of income in the agricultural sector, wrote the FSO.

The Economic Accounts for Agriculture are compiled annually by the FSO in collaboration with the Swiss Farmers' Union. It covers the activities of farms according to agricultural structure surveys and agricultural service enterprises.
