The Zurich-Kloten Airport is celebrating its 75th anniversary this weekend. On Friday, Swiss President Alain Berset will officially open the festivities, which will include performances by the Patrouille Suisse and an aviation exhibition. For the first time ever, the Patrouille Suisse will be flying with 10% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). Additionally, the airport will open its soundproofing hall to the public. The airport was opened on June 14th, 1948, with only 20 takeoffs and landings per day. Today, up to 100,000 passengers travel through the airport daily. In April 1953, the first passenger terminal was inaugurated, replacing the previous makeshift barracks. In 1975, Terminal B was added, featuring finger docks, a parking garage, and a shopping level. In 2003, the intercontinental dock E was added, connected to the airport by the Skymetro, an automated, underground air cushion cable car. Over the past 75 years, the airport has seen many famous visitors, including Louis Armstrong, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Pope John Paul II, and Queen Elizabeth II. On April 30th, 1980, the Queen attended the inauguration of the underground SBB airport station.nnnnnnnnnnnn
