Around 2000 demonstrators expressed their solidarity with the Palestinians in Geneva on Saturday. At a rally, they called for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
The BDS movement, which calls for a boycott and sanctions against Israel, had called for the demonstration. Many participants carried Palestinian flags or wore a traditional black and white Palestinian scarf.
Accompanied by a relatively large police contingent, the demonstration marched through shopping streets and then crossed the Pont du Mont-Blanc, which led to considerable traffic obstructions.
The demonstrators pointed to the high number of civilian casualties since the start of the Israeli military operation in the Gaza Strip. Israel began the operation after the Hamas massacre in southern Israel on October 7, 2023.
In particular, the protesters criticized Western arms deliveries to Israel and demanded that the Swiss army break off all contact with the Israeli armed forces.
