The 2024 Cloëtta Prize goes to immunologist Andrea Ablasser from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL) and cancer researcher Andrea Alimonti from ETH Zurich and the Università della svizzera italiana. They will each receive 50,000 francs.
The award ceremony for the 51st Cloëtta Prize will take place on November 29 at EPFL, as announced by the Prof. Dr. Max Cloëtta Foundation on Wednesday.
Professor Ablazer's research has shown how the innate immune system detects and responds to the DNA of pathogens. Her work has opened up new avenues for the development of therapies to modulate the immune system, offering potential treatments for a wide range of diseases, the report continued.
Professor Alimonti's major scientific contributions include the discovery of a therapeutic approach based on the induction of cells that stop dividing and the immune response against tumors, as well as the discovery of a new mechanism of therapy resistance in prostate cancer.
The aim of the Cloëtta Foundation is to support and promote research in the medical sciences in Switzerland and the associated natural science disciplines. The prize is awarded each year to Swiss and foreign personalities who have made outstanding contributions in these fields.
