Unknown perpetrators blew up an ATM in Sainte-Croix in the Vaud Jura on Monday night. The perpetrators fled with an unknown amount of loot.
The explosion caused extensive damage to the building, as reported by the Vaud cantonal police on Monday. The Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland was informed due to the suspected use of explosives. It is leading the investigation together with investigators from the Federal Police (Fedpol) and the Vaud cantonal police.
In the canton of Vaud, ATM bombers had already struck just over two weeks ago. At that time, unknown perpetrators blew up an ATM in Savigny. According to Fedpol, there have been 25 attacks on ATMs across the country so far this year. Last year there were 32.
In recent months, ATMs have been attacked with explosives, mainly in areas close to the border. As a result, the cantonal banks of Neuchâtel and Jura reduced the number of ATMs due to the increasing number of attacks.
