Another delay in the construction of the new SBB industrial plant in Ticino

SBB has once again had to postpone the start of construction work on the new industrial plant in Arbedo-Castione. According to information from SBB, this is due to a further appeal still pending before the Federal Administrative Court. The total investment has increased by CHF 175 million.
SBB originally estimated the cost of building the new industrial plant at CHF 580 million. SBB now expects to invest CHF 755 million.
The start of construction of the new industrial plant has had to be postponed for the second time. Work was originally due to start last December, but the start of construction had to be postponed to July 2024 due to objections.
The new industrial plant will replace the old one in Bellinzona, which, according to SBB, no longer meets the requirements for rolling stock maintenance. The plans for the new SBB plant caused a great deal of uproar in the southern canton.
