Approximately 80 Percent of Electricity Comes from Renewable Sources

In Switzerland, 79% of the electricity from sockets in 2022 was from renewable energy sources, a decrease of 1% compared to the previous year. 65% of this renewable energy was from hydropower, 3% less than in 2021, with 68% of it produced domestically. 19.6% of the electricity was from nuclear power plants, with the majority of it coming from domestic sources. 13.7% of the electricity was from photovoltaics, wind, small hydropower and biomass, an increase of 2.5% compared to 2021, with 68% of it produced domestically and 45% of it supported by feed-in tariffs. 1.9% of the electricity was from fossil fuels, the same as in 2021. The Swiss electricity mix is 52.8% hydropower, 36.4% nuclear power, 1.4% fossil fuels and 9.4% new renewable energy sources. However, this mix does not match the average composition of the electricity supplied, as electricity is traded with other countries.
